◆ Grade bands at Western Sydney Vietnam
The Western Sydney grading system, and why the same mark is worth less
Western Sydney runs a scale that looks familiar but is set five marks higher at the top and much wider in the middle. Students who compare marks with friends at other campuses in Vietnam are often comparing two different rulers. MAAS reads the rubric your unit actually attached and marks each criterion against it, rather than against a general impression of what good work looks like.

An 82 is a High Distinction at RMIT and at Swinburne. At Western Sydney the same 82 is a Distinction, because the top band does not open until 85. The Pass band is also the widest of any campus on this page at fifteen marks, so a bare Pass tells you very little about whether you were close to a Credit or nowhere near it.
Western Sydney also calculates GPA on a seven-point scale rather than the four-point scale used at RMIT and Swinburne, so grade points do not transfer across campuses either. Marks between 45 and 49 may be eligible for a supplementary assessment; the assessment policy sets the conditions.

Is the grade MAAS gives my final grade?
No. It is an ESTIMATE for reference and may differ from your lecturer's mark. Always confirm with your unit lecturer.
What if my unit isn't in the list?
