What is MAAS Journal Manuscript Proofreading & Editing?
This service corrects the language and grammar of a manuscript you have already written, working in Microsoft Word with Track Changes so every change is visible and every change is yours to accept or reject. The expert makes local corrections to grammar, word choice and tense consistency, and flags passages that read unclearly for you to rewrite.
MAAS does not promise that a journal will accept your paper and offers no refund based on the journal's decision, because acceptance depends on the research itself, while MAAS edits only the language of a manuscript you authored. What MAAS commits to is the quality of the expert: you review and approve your editor's anonymised profile before work begins, and you can ask for a different expert if the fit is not right. The expert who edits your manuscript is credited by name in your Acknowledgments.

Our free re-edit commitment
If your journal editor or a peer reviewer returns comments pointing to language errors in the sections MAAS edited, send those comments to MAAS within 30 days of the date on the journal's letter, provided you submitted the manuscript within 6 months of handover, and the affected passages are re-edited at no extra charge. This commitment covers language flagged in parts MAAS edited. It does not cover new sections written after the edit, or comments about the argument itself.
What is the boundary between editing and rewriting?
MAAS edits language. MAAS does not add claims, data or new analysis, and does not restructure your argument. Many journals accept language editing; check your target journal's author guidelines on language editing services and any disclosure it expects before you submit, since policies differ by publisher.

Who will actually work with you?
Your editor works in your discipline, because academic register in molecular biology reads differently from academic register in economics, and a Methods section edit that is technically correct but disciplinarily odd is a real risk. MAAS EdTech's anonymity policy applies while your manuscript is in progress: you see the level, the field and language background, and the expert is credited by name, not MAAS, when your paper is published.
